Bloody Scryde is a recurring skill first introduced in Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai as a special technique developed by the Dark Swordsman Hyunckel. When used, he delivers a powerful drilling attack by rotating his weapon at high speed, projecting a spiraling shockwave.
In the backstory, Hyunckel first devised the technique as the first of Avan's Disciples in response to Avan's sword techniques. He intended to use it to get revenge on Avan due to mistakenly believing the Hero murdered his father Bartos. On the day of Hyunckel's graduation, he first used the skill against his master, who in turn attacked the boy in self-defence. As the commander of the Undead Legion, Hyunckel would often use the attack in combination with his Dark Puppetry Aura Hand. Since it is a piercing attack, Hyunckel is able to perform it if he is wielding a sword or spear. As he became more powerful, Bloody Scryde eventually gained the ability to damage even orichalcum.
Bloody Scryde can be learned when any character equipped with the Dark Armour Sword reaches level 28 with the weapon. It costs 28 MP to use and inflicts 400% potency Zam-type slashing damage to a single enemy.
Bloody Scryde can be learned by Hyunckel at level 52 and costs 58 MP to use. It inflicts 280% potency Zam-type physical damage to all enemies in a range of three squares in front of him. upgrading the skill increases its damage and reduces the amount of MP it costs to use. He also has a variation called Farewell Bloody Scryde that serves as his Coup de Grâce.
Bloody Scryde appears as a Special Move for Hyunckel and the Luminary Leader as a Hero or Warrior. It is a mid-range attack that pierces and inflicts physical Slash damage over a small area and restores the user's HP proportional to the damage dealt. The skill can be unlocked by obtaining the Shadow Armour Blade from limited Treasure Hunts.
Bloody Scryde appears as a Limit Burst for Immortal Hyunckel. It deals physical damage to a single enemy, decreases their ATK and MAG for three turns, and increases the user's physical damage against demon, stone, and reaper enemies for three turns, as well.
