Dazzle is a recurring spell in the Dragon Quest series.
It attempts to fool a group of enemies with illusions of party members surrounding the enemy's target, reducing their accuracy to 3⁄8 (37.5%).
Introduced in Dragon Quest II, it typically associated with Priest-like characters but has also been learned by Mages in certain titles. The spell typically has a 100% success rate, barring enemy resistance.
Appearances
Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line
The Princess of Moonbrooke learns Dazzle at level 6 in all versions of II and can cast the spell for a mere 2 MP.
In the original NES version of II, Dazzle will only reduce accuracy by 25%. This flaw has been remedied in all subsequent versions, being increased to 50%.
The enemies Brainy badboon, Corpse corporal, Eyelasher, Goregon, Liquid metal slime and Miasma can use this spell against the party.
Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation
Priests learn Dazzle at level 7 and it costs them 4 MP.
The enemies Bag o' laughs, Goodybag, Batterfly, Betterfly, Rottenweiler, Ghoul, Lump mage, and Overtoad can use this spell against the party.
Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen
Kiryl learns Dazzle at Level 6, and Orifiela joins the party already knowing the spell.
The enemies Pickayune, Frolicker, Dangler fish, Red dragon, and Platinum king jewel (in the remakes) can use this spell against the party.

Eyepod, Hocus chimaera, Sootbonce, Mental pitcher and Quadrahead use it only as enemies.
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation
Dazzle is already known by Ashlynn upon joining the party, and learned by Milly at level 6. Other characters can learn this spell by advancing to rank 2 of the Mage vocation.
The enemies Aristobat, Damselfly, Octavian sentry, and Mechalomaniac use this spell against the party.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past
The Draguar will learn Dazzle at the second tier after 16 battles. The Mage learns it at the sixth tier after 105 battles. Maribel Mayde learns it at level 11. It costs 5 MP to cast.
It can be cast by the enemies Clawcerer, Damned well, Hocus porcus, Numpton, Winged sabrecat, and Platinum king jewel
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King
Angelo learns Dazzle after investing 3 points into his Staff skill tree. It costs him 5 MP to cast and affects one group of enemies.
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies
Dazzle is learned by Armamentalists at level 2. It costs 5 MP to cast, and has a base accuracy of 75%. Once the caster's Magical Might reaches 50, the spell will gradually become more accurate. Once the stat reaches 500, the spell have a base accuracy of 100%.
Dragon Quest X
Dazzle can be learned by Rangers at level 29 and costs 3 MP to cast. It will envelop the target and any surrounding enemies in illusions for a short time. If the caster's Magical Might or Magical Mending is 100 or more, it has a higher chance of working.
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age
Dazzle now only costs 3 MP to cast, and is already mastered by Serena and Rab by the time they join the party.
Dragon Quest Monsters
Called Surround in this game, it requires the monster to reach at least level 10, with at least 70 HP, and 70 Agility. It is naturally learned by the Andreal, Babble, Butterfly, FairyDrak, FairyRat, MedusaEye, MistyWing, NoctoKing, Picky and Voodoll.
Dragon Quest Monsters 2
Surround now requires 47 MP and 74 Intelligence instead of the previous requirements. It is naturally learned by the Angleron, CatMage and Inverzon. It is no longer naturally learned by the MistyWing.

Dazzle can be learned from all the skills it could be previously, as well as from Canzar for 6 points.
Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below
Dazzle is an enemy-only spell that can be cast by Goodybags and Zombie gladiators. It creates a magic circle on the ground that will envelop any character that steps inside of it in illusions, making all of their physical attacks completely miss for a short time.
Dragon Quest Tact
Dazzle is known naturally by Bag o' laughs, Foebergine, and Killer moth at level 1 and can be learned by Jailcat at level 16. It costs 8 MP to cast, has a range of three squares away from the caster in any direction, and can blind a single enemy. It can also be taught to any unit by using an ability scroll, which is earned as a reward for completing stage 7 of the Great sabrecub's Battle Road.
