Galen is the most famous Troubadour to ever hum a tune in the isles of Alefgard, with his legacy being surpassed only by the legendary Erdrick himself.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest[edit]

Galen is long deceased by events of the game, with the seaside village of Galenholm being built on his same spot as his family's homestead. His fabled harp, the lyre of ire, is hidden away in the depths of his eponymous tomb, which the Hero will have to retrieve in order to be given the staff of rain.

In Dragon Quest I & II and all versions based on it, the Hero can speak to Galen in the ruins of Damdara after the Dragonlord is slain.

BS Dragon Quest[edit]

It is implied that the spirit of Galen is communicating to the Hero through the lyre of ire, and will speak to him over the course of the third episode.

Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake[edit]

Galen's posthumous role and ending cameo remain the same in the HD remake. His distant descendant, Zalen, is seeking inspiration to become as celebrated a poet as he was.

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation[edit]

Galen is found in Cantlin, where he tells the Hero that he left the lyre of ire with his parents in their homestead far the the north. The Hero left a good impression on the young bard, as he becomes the chronicler of his legends after he saves Alefgard.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake[edit]

A minor scene of Galen returning to his parents has been added to the ending.
