Not to be confused with the Fire skillset from the Monsters games.

Fire, also known as Blazing Breath, is a breath attack in the Dragon Quest series.

In the Japanese versions of the first three games, the name of all fire breaths were the same even if they differed in strength. Starting with the fourth game, all fire-breathing skills were renamed to fit their strength and this applied to remake versions of earlier games.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest[edit]

In the original Famicom version of the game, there were only two varieties of fire breath. The first is used by Blue dragons, Cosmic chimaeras, Dread dragons, and Green dragons and it inflicts 16~23 damage to the Hero (reduced down to 10~14 if he is wearing Erdrick's Armour). The second is used only by the Dragonlord's true form and inflicts 65~72 damage to the Hero, reduced down to 42~48 if he is wearing Erdrick's Armour. In the English version of the game, both are simply described as "breathing fire".

Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line[edit]

In the Famicom version of the game, there are three strengths of fire breath. The weakest only inflicts 8~16 damage to the party and can be used by Dragonflies, Green dragons, Gremlins, Grimlins, and Tyrannodactyls. The second deals between 17~33 damage to the party and is used by Archdemons, Belial, Batmandrills, Dancing flames, and Green dragons. The strongest is used only by Malroth and deals between 49~91 damage to the party. In the English version of the game, each user is described as "[blowing] scorching flames".

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation[edit]

There are three strengths of fire breath in the original Famicom version of the game. The weakest deals 6~9 damage to the party and can be used by Chimaeras, Darth voodoos, Grillerpillars, Hell niños, and Magmalices. The second deals 30~39 damage to the party and can be used by Chimaeras, Ethereal serpents, Green dragons, Hydras, King Hydra, Leger-de-Mans, Orochi, Wyrtles, Wyrtoises. The strongest deals between 80~99 damage to the party and can be used by Baramos, Infernal serpents, and Soul of Baramos. The in-game text describes each user "[emitting] gales of flaming breath" in the English version of the game.

Dragon Quest Tact[edit]

Blazing Breath can be learned by the Dragonlord's True Form at level 36 and can also be learned by Hybird through Talent Blossoming. It costs 97 MP to use. It breathes out flames in a fan-shaped area in front of the user and inflicts major Frizz-type breath damage to all enemies in the area of effect. Upgrading the ability increases its damage and reduces the amount of MP it costs to use. The skill was originally known as Fire, but was renamed in Version 3.1.2 of the game in order to avoid confusion with the spell of the same name from Final Fantasy.
