The Faerie Flute is an item in Dragon Quest. It can be used in battle to put an enemy to sleep, most notably a Golem guarding Cantlin. The official guidebook to Dragon Quest III erroneously calls this item the Flute of Echo, confusing it with the Echo Flute.
Location
In Dragon Quest I, the Faerie Flute is hidden in the village of Kol. Its location is given in a clue by a man in Rimuldar, and can be found by searching 4 steps south of the village baths.
Usage
In Dragon Quest I, the flute is only useful in battle. It can be used to put an enemy to sleep similar to the Snooze spell. The flute is primary designed for defeating the Golem guarding the entrance to Cantlin. The flute will always put the Golem to sleep, whereas it works only sometimes for all other enemies.
In Dragon Quest III, the flute not only can be used to put enemies to sleep, but also is key to freeing Rubiss from her imprisonment in the Tower West of Kol. However, it can no longer be used to fight the Golem of Cantlin, since the guardian construct hasn't been built yet at this point in time.
