Boulder Toss is a recurring ability in the Dragon Quest series. It throws a huge rock large enough to squash all enemies at once.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen[edit]

Appearing in the remakes, Boulder Toss is one of Chow Mein's special attacks, dealing 90~130 damage. Because no equipment in IV resists the Earth element from VI, this attack will hurt.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]

Boulder Toss is learned by advancing to rank 7 of the Gladiator Vocation and will deal 90~130 Strike damage to all enemies.

It is used by the boss Belleau.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]

Learned in the same manner as the previous installment and shares the damage parameters. In the 3DS Version, Boulder Toss is learned at the first rank of the Champion vocation and is slightly nerfed, flattening foes for 80~120.

It is used by the enemies mad moai, mega moai, utter nutters, and the Earth Spirit.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit]

Boulder Toss is a fisticuffs technique that both the Hero and Yangus can learn. It requires 82 skill points by the Hero, and 100 skill points by Yangus. The skill is weaker than normal in this game, dealing only 72~104 damage, but can be boosted with Tension.

  • In the 3DS version, Boulder Toss is also used by Juggerwroth in battle. His version of the skill is much stronger and does 95~130 damage to the whole party.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit]

This ability is learned with 77 skill points invested into the Fisticuffs skill. Boulder Toss has been much improved in this game, dealing damage dependent on the user's strength and deftness for a maximum range of 290~320.

Dragon Quest Monsters[edit]

Called RockThrow in this game, it requires the monster to be at least level 16, with at least 124 HP, and 102 strength. It is learned naturally by Baramos, MetalDrak, RockSlime and Spikerous.

Dragon Quest Monsters 2[edit]

The requirements to learn RockThrow are unchanged. It is naturally learned by the DarkHorn, GigaDraco, Golem, HornBeet, KingSquid, Ogre and SnakeBat. It is no longer learned by the MetalDrak or RockSlime.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker[edit]

Boulder Toss can be learned with 43 in the Cluboon II skill. It costs 32 MP and has a base range of 110~134, capping at a maximum range of 287~349.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2[edit]

Boulder Toss can still be learned from Cluboon II. It can also be learned from:

Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D[edit]

Dragon Quest Monsters 2: Iru and Luca's Marvelous Mysterious Key[edit]

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3[edit]

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince[edit]

Boulder Toss costs 36 MP and deals Level + 120 damage to all enemies. It is learned through the Baramos, Dhoulmagus, Paragon, Rhapthorne, Rockin’ Roller, and Walking Disaster talents.

Dragon Quest Heroes II: Twin Kings and the Prophecy's End[edit]
