Knuckle Sandwich is a recurring fisticuffs ability in the Dragon Quest series. It is a focused, ki-enriched hay-maker that deals much more damage than a normal attack.
Appearances[edit]
Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen[edit]
Knuckle Sandwich appears in remake versions of the game as an enemy-only skill that can be used by Chow Mein.
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]
Knuckle Sandwich inflicts double damage, but has a chance to miss the target if it has any resistance to the strike/rock attribute and is still effected by Dazzle like all physical attacks. Carver obtains this ability during a story event in Murdaw's Keep. Other characters can learn this ability by advancing to rank 5 of the Martial Artist vocation.
It is used by the boss Commander Brutus.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]
The skill can be learned by advancing to rank 7 as a Martial Artist. It deals only 150% damage in the PSX version, but 200% damage for 2 MP in the 3DS remake. On the enemy side, it can be used by Machismogre, Wyatt and Orgodemir in his second form during the final battle.
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit]
Knuckle Sandwich is a Fisticuffs technique that the Hero, Yangus, and Angelo can learn, as well as Morrie in the 3DS version. It requires 12 skill points by Yangus, 24 skill points by the Hero, 35 skill points by Angelo, and 28 skill points by Morrie. All four need 2 MP to perform the technique and it deals 150% damage to enemies that are not resistant to the strike/rock element. On the enemy side, it is used by the Lord of the Dragovians.
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit]
This ability is learned with 25 skill points invested into Fisticuffs skill. Damage is base attack + 50%, with no additional chance to miss. Costs 2 MP to use, making it easy to exploit.
Dragon Quest X[edit]
Knuckle Sandwich can be learned by investing 30 skill points into the Fisticuffs skill and costs 3 MP to use, dealing 150% strength-based physical damage to a single enemy. It has a high chance of landing a critical hit.
- In the Offline version of the game, it can be learned by the Hero and Mjoll through the Fisticuffs panel in their character builders for 5 skill points. The damage and hit rate can be increased further with skill up panels.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince[edit]
Knuckle Sandwich costs 20 MP and takes one turn to charge up, ignoring the target's defence stat and dealing 60% damage of a normal attack to the enemy. It is learned through the Barricade, Fighter, Hardliner, Jasper Unbound, Martial Maven, Materialist, Musclehead, Razerburn, and Zap Afficionado talents.
Dragon Quest Heroes & Dragon Quest Heroes II[edit]
Knuckle Sandwich appears as one of Alena's basic attacks that costs no MP that can be used when she presses the Triangle button.
- Knuckle Sandwich can be upgraded with the skill Knuckle Sandwich Enhancer, which costs 5 skill points to learn when Alena reaches Level 20. By holding down the Triangle button, she can charge up her Knuckle Sandwich to deal more damage. It can be upgraded further by learning Knockout Knuckle Sandwich for 5 skill points at Level 24, which increases the chance of landing a critical hit with the attack.
In the sequel, Carver can learn to perform the skill as well.
