Mercurial Thrust is a recurring ability in the franchise.

Mercurial Thrust was retroactively added to the 2024 remake, where it can learned by a Warrior upon reaching level 9. It costs 3 MP.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]

Mercurial Thrust has the third highest priority of any ability in the game, trailing behind only Double Up and Kaclang, but Attack power is reduced to 80% when used. It is obtained by advancing to rank 5 of the Warrior vocation.

It is used by the enemies Animated armour, Brock, Octavian pirate, Zozagel, and Mortamor's second form.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]

Mercurial Thrust operates exactly as it did in the previous game, and is learned by reaching rank 4 of the Warrior, rank 2 of the Berserker, and rank 7 of the Notso macho

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit]

Eight can use Mercurial Thrust as a spear technique after investing 7 skill points into the associated skill. The skill has received an upgrade under Level-5, and now always goes first turning a turn.

Its is used by the enemies Night fox, Great sabrecat, and Octavian pirate, and by the recruitable Infamous Monster Spot (DQ8).

This ability is learned with 3 skill points invested into Spear skill, and operates exactly as it did in VIII.

Called SquallHit in this game, it requires the monster to reach level 12 with 72 HP, 68 Attack, and 82 Agility. It is naturally learned by the Anteater, ChopClown, Grizzly, MadCat, Phoenix, Roboster, WingSlime and WingSnake.
