Romaria is a roman-esque castletown that serves as the first location in a Dragon Quest game which features a Monster Arena where the player can gamble on enemy monster battles. Even if the player is unlucky, the arena can prove useful for observing the capabilities of the nearby monsters, as well as imported ones from later in the game.
It is the first "mainland" location visited in the game, as well as the series' introduction to Monster Arenas where the player can gamble on enemy monster battles. The Romarans are familiar with Aliahan with a child identifying the Hero 3 nationality from to their clothes.

Appearances
Romaria is the focal point of the Kings Crown subquest.  Upon first arrival, the king will request the heroes retrieve his stolen crown from a group of bandits. These bandits are Robbin'Ood and his henchmen who are headquartered in the nearby Skyfell Tower. By defeating the bandit, the heroes can return the crown to the king or use it as a helmet for their own. Subsequently, the king will make the hero, king of Romaria.  However, in order to continue the quest, the hero must speak with the former king in the Monster Arena and remind him of his duty as a king.

Romaria is a kingdom of Dragon Quest III.

It is a roman-esque kingdom visited early in the game, being the first settlement players see after exiting the Shrine of Promise.

It is the first "mainland" location visited in the game, as well as the series' introduction to Monster Arenas where the player can gamble on enemy monster battles. The Romarans are familiar with Aliahan with a child identifying the Hero nationality from to their clothes.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation[edit]

Romaria is a peaceful kingdom, though the people whisper about the rumors of an Archfiend threatening to conquer the world and even the guards blanche at the recent rise in the monster population. The people put their faith in il Re, their King, to protect them but the man's father bemoans his son's habit of slacking off and retreating to the Monster Arena to gamble instead of focusing on serving his subjects. The Queen is a more serious ruler, and tries to keep her husband's antics in check. She is curious about the Kingdom of Aliahan, and asks the Hero if the people's hearts are as beautiful as her couriers describe the land.

Romaria is the focal point of the King's crown sidequest. Upon first arrival, the King of Romaria will request that the Hero and party retrieve his stolen crown from a group of bandits that have taken shelter in the far-off Skyfell Tower. These bandits are Robbin' 'Ood and his henchmen; thugs who collectively act as the first boss in the game. By defeating the bandits, the Hero and party can return the crown to the King or use it as a helmet for their own. If returned, the King will abdicate the throne in the Hero's favour.

The player is allowed to explore the town and speak with the citizens as King (or Queen), garnering unique dialogue not seen elsewhere in the game--an old woman requests that the Hero order the guards to weed the garden meant to honor the memory of the late Queen, and the woman in the church beseeches the salvation of her family in Norvik, for example. The Hero is prevented by guards from leaving the kingdom's walls out of concerns for safety, so in order to continue the quest the Hero must speak with the former King in the Monster Arena and remind him of his duty as a King.

To the west of the kingdom is the Romarian Outpost, a two-building checkpoint built to provide faster travel into the kingdom of Portoga for those who do not own their own ships. Unfortunately, the Magic Key is required to open the door.

Romaria is a more lavish kingdom in the HD version, featuring impressive architecture and a beautifully-ornamented fountain. Interestingly, the fountain depicts what appear to be the Template:Faeries from the northern reaches of the continent. A spiked hare can be found here at night, but the rabbit's ears will detect the player unless the party is tip-toeing.

The King takes the theft of his crown more seriously in this iteration, setting up a check point on the Romarian road and closing down the Romarian outpost until Robbin' 'Ood has been brought to justice. Humorously the Queen is the final contender in the Monster Arena, meaning the whole royal family likes to slack off instead of attending to official business. One must wonder if the reason the King shirked his duties was to watch his wife in action.
