Sky Slash is the last of the three fundamental techniques of the Avan-style sword school, and by far the hardest to master. Opening their third eye, the user sheathes their sword and then performs a draw-cut which strikes directly at the spirit of the opponent. This technique (and its spear counterpart Sky Strike) are capable of isolating and destroying Flazzard's core from among a cloud of pebbles, as well as cutting the strands of dark Aura wielded by Myst-Vearn.
Once mastered, the principles of Sky Slash can be combined with Earth Slash and Wave Slash to perform the school's ultimate technique, Avan Strash.

Skysplitter is a sword skill which first appeared in Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai as a creation of the hero Avan (translated as Air Slash). It made its debut in the games in Dragon Quest Monsters 2, and then in main series with Dragon Quest XI as the Wind-elemental equivalent of Gigaslash, cutting through one group of foes with a vacuum blade.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]

The Hero learns Skysplitter after speaking to the elder of Havens Above in the game's third act. It costs 16 MP to perform and will deal up to 210~250 damage. If the player has completed quest #60 then the MP cost will double, the base damage will be set to 200~240, and the limit will be raised to 400~440. The Sword of Light or one of its upgrades must be equipped in order to execute the technique.

Dragon Quest Monsters 2[edit]

Known as RageAir in the game, it is a special co-op skill that can be used when two monsters use Gigaslash and Vacuum in the same turn. It inflicts around 550 damage to a single enemy, dealing extra damage to monsters of the Bird family.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 Professional[edit]

Skysplitter was one of the several abilities added to the Pro version of the game. It costs 24 MP and deals 20% more damage than a normal attack to all enemies. It uses the Bang and Woosh elements, defaulting to the target(s) least-resisted element for damage calculation.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D[edit]

Dragon Quest Monsters 2: Iru and Luca's Marvelous Mysterious Key[edit]

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3[edit]

Skysplitter switched the Bang element for Zap, but otherwise works the same in Joker 2 Pro.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince[edit]

Skysplitter costs 15 MP and now solely uses the Wind-element, as the dual-elemental system was abolished. It damages all enemies as usual, and is learned through the Air Fryer, Blowy Slasher, Duelist, Estark, Hair Splitter, Nokturnus, Polariser, Storm Brewer, Storm Chaser, Woosh Virtuoso, and Wyrmhole Dragon talents.

Dragon Quest of the Stars[edit]

Skysplitter appears as a skill as part of the first The Adventure of Dai collaboration event. The skill deals heavy Woosh-type to a single enemy, inflicting even more damage to monsters of the Bird family.

Dragon Quest Walk[edit]

Skysplitter can be learned at level 20 by any character equipped with the Sword of Kings. It costs 20 MP to use and inflicts 190% potency Woosh-type slashing damage on all enemies.
