War Cry is a recurring ability in the Dragon Quest series.

It tries to stun either all enemies or a single group with an intimidating scream.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake[edit]

War Cry was retroactively added to the 2024 remake as a skilled learned at level 18 by the Monster Wranglers if their wisdom exceeds 44 points. War Cry costs 4 MP and has a 1/3rd chance to stun all foes for a single turn, before accounting for stun resistances.

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen[edit]

War Cry makes its first appearance as an enemy-only skill that can be used by bullions, canniboxes, peepers, scarewells, weartigers, terrorflyers, tigergrams, and well wishers. Torneko Taloon is able to use a similar ability with his random antics when he shouts suddenly, having a chance to stun all enemies for a single turn.

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride[edit]

War Cry is used by monster companions such as the moosifer.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]

War Cry tries to scare all enemies for one turn. It is learned by advancing to rank 5 of the Merchant vocation.

It is used by the enemies well wishers, scarewells, Bigg, yawnoceros, chompoceros, dreadful drackals, and gallows giants.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]

War Cry can be learned by advancing to rank 6 as a Martial Artist or rank 2 as a Well wisher. On the enemy side, it can be used by damned wells, scarewells, well wishers, and the first battle against the Fire Spirit.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit]

Yangus can use War Cry after allocating 32 skill points into his "Humanity" skill.

Enemies who use it are mars rover, seasaur, argon lizard, Dhoulmagus in his second form, blue fang, dark turkey, Leopold, fowlfighter, Dark devildog, the Lord of the Dragovians in his Vermillion and Ultimate Dragon forms, Great Argon Lizard in Memoriam, Dark Turkey in Memoriam, and Sir Leopold in Memoriam.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit]

This ability is learned with 4 skill points allocated into Focus skill. War Cry is required to complete Quest #090: Cry Wolf, where the party will have to defeat 5 scarewolves while they are frozen in fear.

Dragon Quest X[edit]

Martial Artists can once again learn the skill by investing 70 points into their Focus skill. It costs 3 MP to use and attempts to shock all enemies near the user into a state of inaction. The success rate is dependent on the user's Deftness attribute.

  • In the Offline version of the game, War Cry can be learned by the Hero as a Martial Artist at level 35 and it can be used by all vocations. It can also be learned by Mjoll through the Powerful panel in her character builder for 3 skill points. It costs 3 MP to use and affects one group of enemies.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]

War Cry returns to being an enemy-only skill that can be used by several monsters, including the auroral serpent, black dragons, fright bulbs, and weartigers.

Dragon Quest Monsters[edit]

Called WarCry in this game, it requires the monster to reach level 14 with 120 HP. It is naturally learned by the eyeball, fangslime, gulpbeast and trumpeter, among others.

Dragon Quest Monsters 2[edit]

The requirements to learn WarCry are unchanged. It is naturally learned by the drygon, evilwell and mertiger.
