Kabuff is a recurring spell in the Dragon Quest series. It increases the entire party's defence as opposed to the single-target Buff.

Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line
Kabuff is learned by the Prince of Cannock at level 20. In the original NES version, it increases defense by 12.5%, and by 50% in all other versions, and costs 2 MP to cast.
The enemies chasmonaut, goregon, magic marionette, shaman, sorcerer, whackolyte and wrecktor, can use this spell on their allies.
Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation
Both Mages & Sages learn the spell at level 9 It heightens the defense of everyone in the party by 50% and takes 4 MP to cast.
The enemies bag o' laughs, crabber dabber doo, king crab, darth voodoo, seaslime, and wyrtoise can use this spell to buff their allies.
Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen
Kabuff is learned by Kiryl at level 14 and increases the party's defense by 100% for 4 MP in the NES version. In the remakes it lasts only 7~10 turns instead of the entire battle.
The enemies picuda, Kirk Buzzer, Psaro the Manslayer in its third form, and Foo Yung can use this spell on their allies.
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride
Kabuff is learned by a variety of characters and increases defense by 50% in the original SNES version and 25% in all subsequent releases. In all versions it costs 3 MP to cast.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation
Kabuff is already known by Goober upon joining the party, and is learned by Milly at level 18, and by Goowain and Shelley at level 8. Other characters can learn it by advancing to rank 5 of the Priest vocation. It increases defense by 25% for 3 MP, with a cap of +200 points.
The enemies hermit pixie, splutterfly, annihilantern, and seaslime can use this spell on their allies.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past
Kabuff has the same properties as in VI. In the original PS1 version, Kabuff can be learned as a hybrid spell by rank 5 as a Cleric or Shepherd immediately after completing the other. It can also be learned by reaching rank 4 as a Jawtoise or rank 2 as a Rockbomb. In the 3DS version, it is an advanced spell and can be learned by reaching rank 3 of the Armamentalist, rank 4 of the Sage, rank 2 of the Monster Masher, rank 5 of the Champion, and rank 1 of the Hero vocations. It can be learned permanently if learned via a monster vocation.
It can be cast by the enemies Bronson, magic marionette, nut knight, cavorting column, mudraker, picuda, whackolyte, and major disaster.
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King
Kabuff is learned by Angelo at level 14 and by Yangus after adding 42 points to his Humanity skill tree. It has the same properties as the previous two games, but now lasts for only 7~10 turns.
It can be cast by Jum, Iron scorpion, War gryphon, Blue fang, and Dark turkey, and by the Infamous Monsters Fletch and Scorpius.
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies
Kabuff is learned by Paladins at level 26 and Sages at level 30. It costs 6 MP to cast, increases defense up to 50%, and lasts 7~10 turns.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age
Serena and Hendrik learn Kabuff at level 23 and 36, respectively, and with the spell needing 6 MP to cast. It will increase the party's defence by 50% for 4~6 turns. Kabuff can only be applied twice.
Dragon Quest Monsters
Called Increase in this game, it is an upgraded form of Upper. Upper will grow into Increase when a monster reaches at least level 6 with at least 24 intelligence.
Dragon Quest Monsters 2
Increase now requires 44 intelligence to upgrade from Upper.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince
Kabuff costs 4 MP and will raise the party's defence by 40%, plus 8 raw points applied after the percentage calculations, for 4~7 turns. It can be applied twice for a total 80% +16 boost to the party, and is learned through the Barricade, Crag Virtuoso, Cure-All, Defender, Fluffy, Heavenly Herald, Just Ruler, Leading Light, Malroth, Materialist, Protector, Psaro the Manslayer, Sage, Smarty-Pants, Strong Speller, and Water Baby talents.
Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below
Kabuff can be learned by Kiryl for 3 skill points and costs 10 MP to cast, increasing the entire party's defence. It can be improved by learning the skill Kabuff Extender for 20 skill points, which makes the effect of Kabuff last even longer. A character who has been affected by Kabuff will have a green glow surrounding their body.
- It is also possible for characters to gain a personal Kabuff effect for a short time with the skills Critical Cover or Last Stand. Critical Cover will activate if a character lands a critical hit and Last Stand activates when a character is low on HP.
Dragon Quest Builders 2
Royal guards in Moonbrooke will learn the spell after raising the island's base level to 2.
Dragon Quest Treasures
Kabuff costs 15 MP to cast and will temporarily boost the defence of all allies in battle. It is learned byemerald king slimes, hades condors, icy draglings, jade slimes, and orc kings.

Kabuff is a playable card.
Dragon Quest Tact
Kabuff is known naturally by emperor slime at level 1 and can be learned by hocus chimaera and seaslime at level 16, green glow at level 18, crabber dabber doo at level 22, jolly sasquash at level 26, hades condor, magic marionette, and whackolyte at level 32, devilmoth at level 42. It costs 24 MP to cast, has a range of 1-3 squares away from the caster and can be self-cast, increasing the DEF of the target and all allies in a 3x3 square for 3 turns.
