Snooze is a recurring spell in the Dragon Quest series. The spell targets a group of enemies and attempts to lull them into a sorcerous slumber for 1~4 turns. Unless the enemy has a resistance, the spell will always be successful when cast.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest[edit]

Snooze is learned by the Hero at Level 7. It costs 2 MP to cast. A snoozing enemy will always sleep for at least one turn, and have a 13 chance of waking up each subsequent turn. Like with other spells in the original title, Snooze uses a resistance table based on 16; I.E. 1 in 16 to hit, 2 in 16, and so on. Due to the way the game's calculations are programmed, no enemies are fully immune to Snooze, with its odds of working bottoming out at 116.

The enemies legerdeman, spitegeist, hocus chimaera, knight aberrant, and dread dragon can use this spell against the player. In the original version of the game, enemy Snooze spells will never fail to put the Hero to sleep. While asleep, the Hero has a 50/50 chance of waking up each turn. Due to the way the game's random number generation is programmed, the Hero will never sleep for longer than 6 turns at a time.

Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line[edit]

Snooze is learned by the Princess of Moonbrooke at Level 2. Magic in II utilizes a resistance table based on 8 instead of 16.

The enemies somnol ant, Pazuzu, gremlin, grimlin, goregon, madusa, miasma, metal Slime, shaman, tyrannodactyl and Hargon can use this spell against the party.

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation[edit]

Snooze is learned by the Hero at Level 16, and by Priests & Sages at Level 9.

The enemies leger-de-an, spiked hare, mimic, king crab, and shell slime can use this spell against the party.

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen[edit]

Snooze is learned by Borya at Level 5 and Meena at Level 6. The spell is also used by Laurel and Tom Foolery.

The enemies bedbug, vampire battler, mangler fish and fat bat can use this spell against the party.
