Rashaverak (originally Anderoug; Andreal in later translations) is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in Dragon Quest IV as a boss monster, he is a large, winged dragon that would later go on to become a normal enemy in other games.

The name Rashaverak refers to both a species and an individual MFamilies, both demonic dragons and the former one of Psaro B's four servants who maintain the barrier surrounding Castle Nadiria. Subsequent appearances are as regular (albeit vicious) enemies in the end-stages of games.

Characteristics
Characteristics
Rashaverak appears as a winged dragon with large frills, four limbs, a thick tail, and a noticeable gut. He is shades of gray in his first appearances but would later take on a purple and orange color scheme.
Rashaverak is a powerful purple bipedal dragon with a large belly that only stalk lands that are covered in pitch black darkness. The underside of its body is light yellow while the webbing on its wings and frills on its head are orange. It has a jaw lined with sharp teeth and it has solid, evil-looking eyes. In its original appearance and the first two Monsters S games, Rashaverak had grey skin with light blue undersides and webbing. They attack by swiping at foes with their long, powerful tails or by belching blistering bellows of burning fire and summon striking winds to wrack at foes, along with crushing groups with cracking ice. They frequently call in allies, such as Healslimes, to help them out in battle.

In his first appearance as a boss monster, Rashaverak had the power to make two copies of himself that would help him in battle. He lacks this skill in later appearances and usually compensates by knowing Dazzle, a hallucination inducing spell that, on him, likely references this splitting power. As a dragon he has considerable physical strength and can unleash powerful fire attacks.

Andreals appear in the wild at the lowest floors of the Old Man's Gate, the gate of dragons. The easiest and most well-known method of breeding it is with any dragon as the pedigree and a Gulpple as the mate. Either Andreal or GreatDrak are required for breeding Dragonlord and Orochi.

The Andreal can be found in the Mentare area in Disc 2. The player can obtain an Andreal Heart from them if they are very lucky.

Anderoug, Rashaverak's name in the original NES release, is an imperfect anagram of "dragon".
*Rashaverak's original name, Andreal, is taken from Andrealphus, one of the 72 demons described in the Ars Goetia, taken from the Lesser Key of Solomon. Andrealphus is described as a great marquis with the physical appearance of a peacock who teaches humans about astronomy and geometry. He rules over 30 legions of demons and has the ability to turn any man into a bird.

*Its English name, Rashaverak, is the name of a character in the science fiction novel Childhood's End, written by Arthur C. Clarke. For the monster vocation in Dragon Quest VII, see Rashaverak (vocation).

The name Rashaverak refers to both a species and an individual monster, both demonic dragons and the former one of Psaro's four servants who maintain the barrier surrounding Castle Nadiria. Subsequent appearances are as regular (albeit vicious) enemies in the end-stages of games.

Characteristics[edit]

Rashaverak is a powerful purple bipedal dragon with a large belly that only stalk lands that are covered in pitch black darkness. The underside of its body is light yellow while the webbing on its wings and frills on its head are orange. It has a jaw lined with sharp teeth and it has solid, evil-looking eyes. In its original appearance and the first two Monsters games, Rashaverak had grey skin with light blue undersides and webbing. They attack by swiping at foes with their long, powerful tails or by belching blistering bellows of burning fire and summon striking winds to wrack at foes, along with crushing groups with cracking ice. They frequently call in allies, such as Healslimes, to help them out in battle.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen[edit]

Rashaverak is one of Psaro's top generals and guards one of the four barriers surrounding Castle Nadiria. He is triplicated when he appears, and can summon more of his species in battle if the original ones are defeated. They attack with superheated gases, though the power of these attacks can be greatly reduced with Insulatle. His dialogue as he dies indicates that Rashaverak is loyal to Psaro, unlike many of his hellish peers.

Dragon Quest Keshi Keshi[edit]

Etymology[edit]

 • Rashaverak's original name, Andreal, is taken from Andrealphus, one of the 72 demons described in the Ars Goetia, taken from the Lesser Key of Solomon. Andrealphus is described as a great marquis with the physical appearance of a peacock who teaches humans about astronomy and geometry. He rules over 30 legions of demons and has the ability to turn any man into a bird.
 • Its English name, Rashaverak, is the name of a character in the science fiction novel Childhood's End, written by Arthur C. Clarke. Rashaverak is an Overlord, a species of alien from outer space who have the traditional appearance of demons from Christian folk imagery.
