Body Slam is a recurring skill in the Dragon Quest series that first appeared in Dragon Quest IV as an enemy-exclusive ability before becoming a player-usable skill in later installments.

Upon use, it attempts to reduce both the user and target's HP by around 80%. Be wary of using this skill, as the player will still take damage even if they miss their target.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen[edit]

It made its first appearance in this game, as a skill exclusively used by enemies. The skill is used by Bullfinch, King slime, Moosifer, Perilwinkle, and Chow Mein. Enemies will only use it when low on HP.

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride[edit]

Body Slam is learned by several monster companions such as the Rockbomb. As the skill shares the same resistance tag with Kamikazee, only the Pink elephant, Blizzybody, Necromancer, Hades' helm, Hyperpyrexion, Mandrake marauder, Bomboulder, Moosifer, Balhib, Archdemon, Great dragon, Deathsquad, Mechan-o'-wyrm, Barbatos, Bilhaw, Metal slimes, and boss monsters have any resistance or immunity at all.

Name Level
Fat rat --
Rotten apple --
Hades' helm 5
Ticking timeburrm 5
Bomboulder 6
Rockbomb 10
Fandangow 25

Terrorceratops and Fire-eater use it only as enemies.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]

Body Slam is learned by Kingsley at Level 10. Other characters can learn it by advancing to rank 6 of the Merchant vocation. Body Slam now uses the same resistance tag as Whack.

In the Super Famicom version the recoil damage is much less for human characters because all humans have an innate Whack resistance, giving the skill more utility. This oversight was corrected in the Nintendo DS remake.

It is used by the enemies Rotten cotton, Darkcrawler, Wayward armour, Armoured wartoise, Finned fatale, and Dreadful drackal.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]

Body Slam has the same parameters as in the previous game and can be learned at rank 3 as a Sailor (rank 2 in the 3DS version), rank 7 as a Jawtoise and Malevolantern, rank 4 as a Seasaur, and rank 3 as a Platinum king jewel. Ruff has his own variation of the skill called Roar Deal.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit]

Body Slam can be used by Bullfinch, Buffalo wing, Notso macho, and Iron rhino. The only Infamous Monster who can use it is Potbelly.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit]

This ability is learned with 48 skill points invested into Courage skill. It is very useful for Quests that require a character to be at low health, giving it some added functionality.

Dragon Quest X[edit]

Body Slam can be learned by investing 70 skill points into the Warrior's Courage skill. This time, it has the added effect of being able to stun an enemy, as well as having an 80% chance of knocking them back by several meters. It costs 4 MP to use and deals 125% damage of a normal attack. It can also be used by various monsters, including Barbatos, Dragon slime, and Drake slime.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]

Body Slam once again appears as an monsters-only skill that can be used by Toadies and Moosifers. It deals 110% damage to a single character and has no recoil effect.

Dragon Quest Monsters[edit]

Called Ramming in this game, it requires the monster to reach level 12 with 70 HP and 70 Agility. It is naturally learned by the BullBird, DeathMore (Transformed), GulpBeast, MiniDrak and PillowRat.

Dragon Quest Monsters 2[edit]

The requirements to learn Ramming are unchanged. It is naturally learned by the Belzebub, BossTroll, Digong, Drygon, KingSlime, Petiteel, ProtoMech, PutreFish and RockSlime.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker[edit]

Body Slam can be learned from:

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2[edit]

Body Slam can no longer be learned from Champion, and Berserker now requires 13 points.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3[edit]

Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D[edit]

Dragon Quest Monsters 2: Iru and Luca's Marvelous Mysterious Key[edit]

Dragon Quest Monsters: Super Light[edit]

Dragon Quest Tact[edit]

Body Slam is known naturally by Bunicorn, Golem, Lleviathan, Lucky bag, Medislime, She-slime, Slime, Stark raven, and Sham hatwitch at Level 1, costing 4 MP to use. It inflicts minor martial damage to a single enemy.
