The Prince of Midenhall | The Prince of Midenhall is one of the four playable characters from Dragon Quest II.
He is a descendant of Erdrick who responds to the sudden rising threat of Hargon. He inherited all of his ancestor's physical strength, but unlike his cousins the Prince of Cannock, the Princess of Moonbrooke, and the Princess of Cannock, he cannot use magic, and as such is the only Main Series main hero who doesn't possess any magical ability. The HD-2D remake does give him several non-magical skills however.
The name given to the hero in the Japanese CD theater drama and novelizations is Allen (アレン). For the promotional images of , he is given the name Gawain.

==Appearance and Personality==
The Hero wears blue for the most part, though the goggles that rest on his helmet are brown. He wears a blue tunic over black form-fitting long-sleeved shirt and pants, blue shoes with light blue socks, and blue gloves. Across his chest is a swordbelt with a scabbard attached to the back. He also wears a brown belt around his waist with a small brown pouch on it and a belt buckle in the shape of Erdrick's symbol. His sword is typical aside from the hand cover built into the hilt, and his shield is adorned with Erdrick's symbol. His hair varies between illustrations, where it's shown to be black in color and trimmed short in older pieces and unkempt silver in later works. In many modern depictions, he is often seen wielding the thunderbolt blade.
Even though the Hero is a silent protagonist and his personality is open for the player to define, a strong sense of justice can be seen in the beginning of the game, as he sets out to stop Hargon and his evil cult without so much as a "But thou must" proposal from the King.
== | Although the Hero is the only nameable character, he remains equal in stature with his three companions in Dragon Quest II, the Prince of Cannock, the Princess of Moonbrooke, and the Princess of Cannock. All four are descendants of Erdrick. This varies from other games in the series where only the hero is of notable birth compared to his party companions.
| |||
In the HD-2D Remake, the Prince is a stoic, yet kind young man. He serves as the emotional rock of the party in contrast to his more emotional cousins. He is diligent and experienced and is a rather muscular fellow, well-immersed in his combat training. Despite this, the Prince appears to have more emotions than he lets on, considering his knowledge of the sacred technique of the Puff-Puff and his experience with delivering powerful Puff-Puffs to his enemies.
==Appearances== | |||
===DQ2=== | |||
The Prince of Midenhall is the first Luminary that the player controls in the game, responding to news of Hargon's assault on Moonbrooke by setting out to assemble his cousins and take the fight to the mad priest's citadel in the frozen plateau of Rendarak.

The Prince of Midenhall is one of the four playable characters from Dragon Quest II.
He is a descendant of Erdrick who responds to the sudden rising threat of Hargon. He inherited all of his ancestor's physical strength, but unlike his cousins the Prince of Cannock, the Princess of Moonbrooke, and the Princess of Cannock, he cannot use magic, and as such is the only Dragon Quest main hero who doesn't possess any magical ability. The HD-2D remake does give him several non-magical skills however.
The name given to the hero in the Japanese CD theater drama and novelizations is Allen (アレン). For the promotional images of Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake, he is given the name Gawain.
Appearance and Personality[edit]
Although the Hero is the only nameable character, he remains equal in stature with his three companions in Dragon Quest II, the Prince of Cannock, the Princess of Moonbrooke, and the Princess of Cannock. All four are descendants of Erdrick. This varies from other games in the series where only the hero is of notable birth compared to his party companions.
Appearances[edit]
Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line[edit]
The Prince of Midenhall is the first Luminary that the player controls in the game, responding to news of Hargon's assault on Moonbrooke by setting out to assemble his cousins and take the fight to the mad priest's citadel in the frozen plateau of Rendarak.

Equipment[edit]
As the most physically powerful of the trio, the Prince of Midenhall has access to the widest range of weapons and armor. He can equip every weapon and piece of armor available, including heavier ones that his cousins cannot use, such as the Sledgehammer. This means he is also the only character who has access to the legendary Erdrick's equipment, and as such, should use them when facing Hargon.

The prince is represented by a statue based on his likeness, being Treasure No. 329 with a base value of 5,000,000
Dragon Quest Monsters +[edit]
The Prince appears as a main character during Kleo's venture into Rendarak. He saves the lad from Batmandrills and is astonished that a human can consider monsters as his allies. The Prince displays astounding superhuman strength, breaking through stone barriers and manhandling massive monsters.
Trivia[edit]
- He is the only main hero who cannot use magic of any kind.
- In the Japanese version of the game, he is depicted as the tallest of the cousins.
- In the artwork for the American NES version of the game, he is still wearing Erdrick's signature blue armor, but the shield had been changed from blue to red.
