The King Hydra is the first of three monsters the Hero and his party fight before facing the Demon Lord Zoma in Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation. It is an even stronger version of the Hydra.

The Hero's father, Ortega, is seen fighting the monster during the player's assault on Zoma's domain, but is slain during a cutscene and dies in his child's arms.
