Xenlon is an additional post-game boss made for the Super Famicom, Game Boy Color, and Cell phone remakes of Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation.
She is a green eastern dragon of immense age and magical capability, granting wishes to those able to best her in battle. Xenlon later appeared in the Dragon Quest Monsters series as one of the most difficult monsters to recruit.
Appearances
Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation
Xenlon's existence is alluded to three times in the game after Zoma is defeated: the first by the Aliahan Castle scientist who is researching the fable of a wish granting dragon, the hint-giving prisoner in the same castle, and by a Faerie standing next to the pillar of light in the Castle of the Dragon Queen.
She is found at the top of the castle in the sky, sleeping at the summit. She can be battled multiple times in order for a wish to be granted. She gets bored over long and tedious fights, that's why she enforces a turn limit for whoever fights her. To have her grant the first wish, she must be defeated within 35 turns. Though she will express annoyance at meeting the party again after the first wish has been granted and reduce the turn limit to 25. In some versions of the game with 3 or more wishes available, after the second wish is granted, she will reduce the turn limit again to 15. Despite this initial irritation, Xenlon will be positively thrilled if she can be bested under her strict turn limit and thank the player for an exhilarating battle. Upon beating her, she will transport the party to the outside of the Castle of the Dragon Queen whether a wish is made or not.
- Reviving Ortega.
- Create a Treasures n' Trapdoors board in the well of Jipang (removed in Cell phone version).
- Get a copy of Guns'n'Buns.
- Get rare Monster Medals (GBC version only).
- Open the path to the Ice Cave bonus dungeon (GBC version only).
- This option is represent as a blank spot on the list of wishes, similar to the Jailor's Key in II.

This divine dragon is by far the strongest foe in the game, and will make Zoma look like a chump. She has immunity to every status debuff, and even Drain Magic, so the only way to approach this fight is with a full frontal assault with Oomph and Falcon blades. Her specific action attacks like chewing on a character will ignore defence, so don't even bother with Kabuff. Instead, keep Acceleratle up at all times to make life easier for healers. Also, because Xenlon only has one spell and an equal chance to use any of her actions, Insulatle is a better idea than Bounce.
On the bright side, Xenlon has no resistances to offensive spells, meaning that if the Hero has enough MP, the player can cast Kazap over and over again to whittle down her health. Magi and Sages should only cast Kafrizzle when healing and buffing have already been covered for the turn.
Consistent 15 turn KO
For a consistent 15 turn KO, Xenlon needs to be dealt an average of 487 damage per turn. Thankfully, this is quite achievable, as Kafrizzle is a guaranteed 46HKO, even if every hit rolls the bare minimum of 160 damage; with 45 hits of 160 damage, Xenlon lives with 100 HP. Toss in two Kaswooshes by using the Sword of Kings as a battle item, and you have enough damage to win no matter how bad the RNG gets. The party is thus composed of the Hero and 3 Kafrizzle casters; the Kafrizzle casters need a minimum of 300 MP for 15 Kafrizzles each; totaling 7200 guaranteed damage amongst them, though more likely, fewer Kafrizzles will be needed since this assumes the bare minimum damage. The Hero should ditch the Auroral Armour for a Glombolero to bring Omniheal down to 32 MP per cast; in conjunction with the Hero spamming the Sage's Stone when nobody's HP is critical, they should be able to provide enough healing for the party as long as they do so efficiently. Everyone should have as much HP as possible, as to make Omniheal as efficient as possible.

Trivia
- In Dragon Quest III, due to Monster Medals being saved automatically, the player can save wishes by defeating her and getting all of her sets of Medals, then reseting the game.
- This character is likely a tribute to Akira Toriyama's Dragon God Shenron. Not only do they look extremely similar (the only differences being Shenron's glowing red eyes and Xenlon's purple accents), they also grant wishes. In addition, the kanji for Shenron's name in Dragon Ball is 神龍 (meaning "god dragon"), which can be read as "shen long" in Mandarin Chinese (which, when the Chinese reading is said aloud by a Japanese person, becomes "シェンロン Shenron" - the same as his name in Dragon Ball), whereas it is read as "しんりゅう shinryū" in Japanese, the same as Xenlon's name in the Japanese version of Dragon Quest.
