Heal is a recurring spell in the Dragon Quest series.

As its name suggests, it functions to restore the HP of the character it is used on. As the seminal spell of the franchise, Heal is almost always the first spell learned by the Hero/Heroine in their adventure. It is related to the more powerful spells Midheal, Moreheal, Megaheal, Multiheal, Fullheal, and Omniheal.

Heal and its variations are commonly learned by Priests and the game's Hero.

Certain monsters (e.g. the healslimes) can also know this spell, with more powerful palette swaps knowing improved versions of the spell.

The enemies Drackyma, Raving lunatick, Skeleton scrapper, and Skeleton soldier can use this spell to heal themselves.

The Prince of Cannock knows the spell upon being recruited. It restores 23~42 HP in the original, and 25~30 in the remakes. Both versions cost 3 MP.

The enemies Gremlin, Hawk man, and Healslime can use this spell to heal themselves.

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation[edit]

Heal restores 30~40 HP for 3 MP, and is automatically learned by Priests from the beginning, by Sages at level 2, and the Hero at level 4. Those who become a Priest or Sage in the Alltrades Abbey need to advance one level to learn it. In the mobile port, this is changed so that anyone who becomes a Priest or Sage automatically knows the spell at level 1.

The Hero can learn it much sooner for use in battle in the NES Version if a glitch is exploited in Patty's Party Planning Place where too many companions are registered, though it will prevent The Hero from being able to learn it for use on the world map.

The spell can cause damage to Zoma after the Sphere of Light is used on him.

The enemies bag o' laughs, mushroom mage, and healslime can use this spell to heal themselves or their allies.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake[edit]

Heal is learned by Priests and Sages at level 1 and by the Hero at level 3 if his or her wisdom exceeds 13 points. Heal costs 3 MP and restores 30~40 HP to one ally.

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen[edit]

The basic heal spell is known by Kiryl and [[Meena Mahabala at level 1. Healie and Laurel also know the spell. It costs 2 MP to cast and Heals 30~40 HP (unless it heals the target completely) to party members.

The enemies healslime, mushroom mage, flying doctor, wimp, pterygotus, Master kung, and tigergram can use this spell to heal themselves or their allies.

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride[edit]

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]

Heal costs 2 MP and restores 30~40 HP to one ally. It is learned by the Hero at level 4, and Amos, Goowain, Healie, Kinglsey Milly, Nevan learn the spell at level 1. All other characters can learn Heal at the first rank of the Priest vocation.

The enemies tree feller, corpsickle, ewwnicorn, hocus dreamaera, slime knight, and metal slime knight can use this spell to heal themselves or their allies.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]

Heal costs 2 MP and restores 30~40 HP to one ally. The Hero learns Heal at level 3 and Maribel learns it at level 10, and any character that becomes a Priest at Alltrades Abbey learns the spell at the first rank, as well as reaching rank 3 of the Shepherd vocation, rank 2 of the Kingfuchsia vocation, and rank 2 of the Healslime vocation.

It can be cast by the enemies healslime, slime knight, metal slime knight, crabble-rouser, caper tiger, shaman, little devil, cheeky devil, drill sergeant, epipany, conkuistador, and quayhorse.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit]

The basic Heal spell is already known by Angelo upon joining, and is learned by the Hero at level 3. By investing 10 points into the Humanity skill, Yangus can also learn this spell.

The enemies fencing fox, healslime, giant moth, drackyma, slime knight, night fox, chimaera, metal slime knight, and mushroom mage also use this spell.

It can be cast by the Infamous Monsters Fletch, Healer (Recruit), Madge, and Slimehopper.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit]

Heal is learned by Luminary at level 4, Minstrels at level 3, Paladins at level 7, Priests at level 1, Rangers at level 10, Sages at level 2, and Thieves at level 9.

Heal initially restores the usual 30~40 HP when used, but when the caster's Magical Mending surpasses 50 it will gradually improve in potency. Once the caster's Magical Mending has reached 999, the spell will restore 155~165 HP.

Dragon Quest X[edit]

Heal is already known by Priests and Sages at level 1 and can be learned by Minstrels at level 2, Paladins at level 4, Luminaries at level 5, Rangers at level 6, Thieves at level 8, and is known by Death Masters at level 50. It costs 2 MP to cast, has a base range of 25~31 HP restored and reaches to a maximum of 95~101 once the caster's Magical Mending reaches 410. Heal can be learned by a Healslime or Slime knight monster companion for 3 skill points, as well.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]

The Luminary learns Heal at level 5, and Serena will join the party having already mastered the spell. It costs 3 MP to cast, has a base range of 25~35, and a maximum range of 35~45.

Dragon Quest Monsters[edit]

Heal restores around 30~40 HP to a single ally for 3 MP. It can be learned naturally by many monsters, including bigeye, deadnite, eyeder, gremlin, healer, kingslime, mudron, roguenite, slimenite, treeboy, unicorn and wyvern as long as they have 7 maximum MP and 6 INT. Heal will automatically upgrade to HealMore and eventually HealAll as the monster levels up and their attributes increase.

Dragon Quest Monsters 2[edit]

Heal now requires 11 Intelligence to learn. It is naturally learned by the octokid, among others. It is naturally learned by the foohero, lampgenie and madgoose. It is no longer naturally learned by the bigeye, kingslime, mudron or treeboy.

Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime[edit]

Localized as Miniheal, the spell can be used by Mother Glooperior as a tank crewmate to restore allies' HP while her tactics are set to "Keep everyone alive".

Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below[edit]

Heal cannot be learned by any of the playable characters, but Healix will occasionally cast Heal on a random party member if their HP is low. If a character is equipped with one of the Slime weapons and/or Slime earrings, they have a higher chance of being healed randomly by Healix. As the story progresses, Healix is also able to cast stronger healing spells on his friends.

Dragon Quest Treasures[edit]

Heal costs 3 MP and is learned by cutie slimes, drackyma, Hades' Condors, hat hamwitchs, king slimes, orc kings, orc queens, shadow ministers, soggy hands, wight prince, and ultra marines.

Dragon Quest Tact[edit]

Heal is known naturally by bushy baby, ewwwnicorn, Hades' Condor, Healie, healslime, hocus chimaera, and wimp at level 1 and costs 7 MP to cast. It has a range of 1-2 squares away from the caster, can be self-cast, and restores a small amount of HP to a single ally. It can also be taught to any unit by using an ability scroll.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]

The Hero can cast Heal through his Command Selection ability. It costs 7 MP and will reduce his damage percentage by 11% when cast, but using it two times will prevent it from appearing in Command Selection again until the player is K.O.'d.
