Morrie Mozzarella is a mostly comical character, introduced in Dragon Quest VIII. He also acts as "host" for the Monster Battle sub-series.

Although Morrie was introduced as an NPC in the original PS2 release of the DQ VIII, he has been upgraded to a playable character for the 3DS version. In combat, he is capable of wielding clubs, boomerangs, and claws, as well as utilizing the abilities of monsters from his infamous pit.

He also acts as the host for the Monster Battle sub-series, and makes numerous cameos throughout the series.

Morrie's outfit consists of an almost jester-like tunic with alternating sections of green and red that shows off his hairy chest, as well as very tight leggings. He wears a black belt, gloves, shoes, and a white scarf around his neck which always seems to blow in the wind, even while indoors.
Morrie speaks with an Italian accent and peppers his dialuge with Italian terms, such as calling the Hero "ragazzo" or Jessica "bimba".  In the 3DS Version, he refers to Trode as Don Toad, Medea as Bellissima Principessa and Red as Rosa Rossa.

In Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime, Morrie Morrie (as he is called here) is a little, orange slime (in some way similar to a she-slime, although Morrie Morrie is clearly male, with his furry beard and eyebrows still on him) and now uses his white scarf as a white bandau.
Morrie is an absurd middle-aged man whose life is dedicated to the thrill of watching monsters battle one another in gladiatorial bouts, having spent a considerable fortune creating his Monster Arena 8, Morrie's Place. Morrie is prone to fits of intense passion, fully dedicating himself to any decision once he has made up his mind on something--this passion is what attracted the entourage of bunny girls he employs to his pit in the first place. Large walls of flame appear behind Morrie when is especially impassioned for extra dramatic flair, akin to visual gags seen in anime. The version revealed that these flames are real, and that Morrie can put them to use during combat. At the end of battles, he poses dramatically with his weapon in midair while his allies simply holster their equipment. Despite his incredible eccentricities, Morrie is not as foolhardy as one might assume at first glance: Party Chat in the version shows that he takes his position as the oldest member of the group seriously.

Story
Morrie speaks with an Italian accent and peppers his dialogue with Italian terms, such as calling the Hero 8"ragazzo" or Jessica Albert "bimba". His name for Yangus is "signore" and his name for Angelo is "casanova". In the version of VIII, he refers to Trode as Don Toad, Medea as Bellissima Principessa, and Red as Rosa Rossa. In the English version, he also has a tendency to use suggestive double-entendres in seeming obliviousness.
Dragon Quest VIII Sony PlayStation 2 Version
The Hero and company first encounter Morrie on the rooftop of his Monster Arena. Sensing something special in the Hero, Morrie sends him to capture three "infamous monsters" to deem the Hero worthy to enter his arena. Once the party has succeeded in making the captures, Morrie allows The Hero to compete in his Monstrous Pit on one condition: he must compete with GUSTO!

After many victories, Morrie eventually allows The Hero to challenge him and despite his own loss is impressed that someone was able to outperform him.  As a prize, Morrie has a statue of The Hero built and placed on top of the building to commemorate his status as Champion.

Following on from Morrie's defeat, he joins The Hero to help him with his dream in return for fulling his dream which was finding someone superior to him as a monster trainer.

His role in the story is minimal due to him being an optional party member, though during the party's arrest he helps Red, along with Trode and Medea in finding them on Purgatory Island.

During the ending, he shows up at Trodain to mention to The Hero that he was given a formal invite to the wedding at Savella Cathedral by King Clavius.  During the first ending (prior to having access to the Dragovian Path), Morrie leaps out of his seat to buy The Hero time in avoiding capture by the guards.
DQ8 Nintendo 3DS version
Morrie will join upon the completion of Rank S at the Monster Arena, which can be done after the Party 8 takes care of matters at Arcadia.  Prior to that, Morrie mentions that he would need time to prepare for their competition. Morrie also joins the party with 115 skill points that can be freely allocated.

Abilities
Morrie has the lowest Resilience, HP, and MP of all male characters in VIII. This is due to both his age and beanpole build, which makes him difficult to keep alive in battle. To compensate, he also has the third highest Agility of the Party 8 members and his Tension-boosting skills can quickly turn the tide of battle in the Party 8's favor if used properly. Morrie also joins the Party 8 with 115 skill points that can be freely allocated.

"You know what they say: You never know the depths of your own passion until you play with yourself."

Dragon Quest VIII

Morrie Mozzarella (モリー, Morī) is a mostly comical character, introduced in Dragon Quest VIII.

He also acts as the host for the Monster Battle sub-series, and makes numerous cameos throughout the series.

Appearance and Personality[edit]

Morrie's outfit consists of an almost jester-like tunic with alternating sections of green and red that shows off his hairy chest, as well as very tight leggings. He wears a black belt, gloves, shoes, and a white scarf around his neck which always seems to blow in the wind, even while indoors.

Morrie is an absurd middle-aged man whose life is dedicated to the thrill of watching monsters battle one another in gladiatorial bouts, having spent a considerable fortune creating his Monster Arena, Morrie's Place. The 3DS version revealed that these flames are real, and that Morrie can put them to use during combat. At the end of battles, he poses dramatically with his weapon in midair while his allies simply holster their equipment. Despite his incredible eccentricities, Morrie is not as foolhardy as one might assume at first glance: Party Chat in the 3DS version shows that he takes his position as the oldest member of the group seriously.

Morrie speaks with an Italian accent and peppers his dialogue with Italian terms, such as calling the Hero"ragazzo" or Jessica Albert "bimba". His name for Yangus is "signore" and his name for Angelo is "casanova". In the 3DS version of VIII, he refers to Trode as Don Toad, Medea as Bellissima Principessa, and Red as Rosa Rossa. In the English version, he also has a tendency to use suggestive double-entendres in seeming obliviousness.

In Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime, Morrie Morrie is a little, orange slime (in some way similar to a She-slime, although Morrie Morrie is clearly male, with his furry beard and eyebrows still on him) and now uses his white scarf as a white bandana.

The Hero and company first encounter Morrie on the rooftop of his place.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King Nintendo 3DS version[edit]

Morrie will join upon the completion of Rank S at the Monster Arena, which can be done after the party takes care of matters at Arcadia. Prior to that, Morrie mentions that he would need time to prepare for their competition.

His appearance in the ending is only possible if he joins, as otherwise he merely makes an appearance in the audience of the wedding.

To compensate, he also has the third highest Agility of the party members and his Tension-boosting skills can quickly turn the tide of battle in the party's favor if used properly. Morrie also joins the party with 115 skill points that can be freely allocated.

Morrie's Memos[edit]

To determine whether The Hero and his party are worthy to compete in his place, Morrie hands out three notes referred to as Morrie's Memo. Each one gives the location of a specific monster and their description.

Upon fulfilling the request, Morrie gives the party the Arena Key and takes his memos' back.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit]

Morrie appears as one of the special guests at the Quester's Rest in Stornway. This was obtainable through the DQVC using Nintendo's Wi-Fi Channel when it was still available. When spoken to, Morrie will give the player different pieces of his outfit if certain fulfillment are required, such as talking to him on the Hero's birthday or being a Gladiator.

A special Accolade is earned if the Hero wears all of the parts of Morrie's costume.

Itadaki Street Portable[edit]

Dragon Quest: Young Yangus and the Mysterious Dungeon[edit]

Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime[edit]

In Rocket Slime, Morrie appears as a guest character. Though in the world where the events take place the Human race is not present at all, Morrie has become a Slime himself.

Trivia[edit]

 • His appearance is loosely based on Akira Toriyama's own Mr. Satan/Hercule character from the famous Dragon Ball series.
 • Morrie's outfit is based on the Italian flag.
 • In his clash with the Hero inside the Monster Arena it is revealed that his last name is Mozzarella through the announcer's introductions in the Rank S finals.
 • Prior to the release of the 3DS version in Japan, VIII's producer Noriyoshi Fujimoto stated that if Morrie were classified with a Vocation, he would be an evolved mix of a Minstrel and Martial Artist.
 • Putting Morrie in the party in place of Yangus will result in several scenes playing out differently, such as the Pirate's Cove's entrance for instance.
 • According to the Dragon Quest Illustrations: 30th Anniversary Edition artbook, Morrie's design was originally going to be used for the character Dominico, but it was later decided that his design was considered too extravagant for such a minor NPC. Later on in development, Morrie's character was conceived and utilized the design.
