The Quagmire Cave[1] is an undersea tunnel which connects the north and south sections of eastern Alefgard.

The dungeon has one entrance on each island, as well as both sides being surrounded by poisonous swamps. It is one of only a few places which is accessible in every game in the Erdrick trilogy.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest[edit]

Quagmire Cave must be crossed in order to reach the southeastern continent. The cave also contains the kidnapped Princess Gwaelin who is guarded by a single Green dragon until The Hero saves her.

Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line[edit]

Quagmire Cave serves no real purpose in the game due to the fact that by the time The Hero's party can access it, they already have a ship which eliminates the need to enter the cave.

Additionally, the cave has been downsized to a simple straight corridor with no treasure inside.

Nearby monsters[edit]

Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake[edit]

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation[edit]

Quagmire Cave is not fully completed during the time period of the game. Inside the north entrance, The Hero's and party can visit several workers who are busy completing its excavation.

Nearby monsters[edit]

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake[edit]

The tunnel is now home to a scant few treasures and there is a disguised crone ranger creeping on the workers, but the dungeon's features remains the same otherwise.

The real point of interest it that the lost henchmen of Robbin' 'Ood have taken up work in the tunnel after falling into the underworld. One of them will tip the player off to the whereabouts of the fabled zenithium metal, which can upgrade Ortega's Helm into the Auroral Helm; if the player follows the goon's clues, the metal will be found in the depths of Gaia's Navel and require a wrecking ball to dislodged.

Dragon Quest Tact[edit]

The Master and Majellan pay a visit to the cave in Chapter 2, Episode 5 of the game's limited Dragon Quest event quests hoping to find the lost Mindini there. Despite having had her kidnapped, the Green dragon tries to drive her away when it becomes annoyed with her. A battle ensues with the dragon and it joins the party afterwards, having grown tired of its position as a guard.
