The Stairway to Zenithia is a location in Dragon Quest IV, Dragon Quest V and Dragon Quest VI, where it is known as the Pillar of Pegasus in the latter most game.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen[edit]

Located on Central Island south of The Azimuth, it is an immensely tall tower stretching up towards the heavens. Because it serves as the gateway of sorts to Zenithia, the Hero and their party can only enter if they are wearing the entire set of Zenithian Equipment. It has a number of magically powered elevators, some of the only articles of high technology in the entire game.

The first floor of the Tower has a high encounter rate for Metal king slimes, allowing for easier grinding for the endgame. The layout in the remake differs greatly from the original version.

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride[edit]

The Stairway to Zenithia is located on the central continent. Due to the shoals surrounding the area, it can only be reached by riding in the Flying Carpet. Since Zenithia itself had sunk into a lake, the tower has fallen into disrepair. However, it still contains a Magma staff needed to reach the mineshaft leading to the sunken castle.

Due north of the tower is a lake where the elusive Faerie Palace is hidden.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]

Known as the Pillar of Pegasus, the tower is the final location the Hero needs to explore in the Lower World. The Celestial reins needed to control Pegasus are found at the top, guarded by a trio of monsters. Unlike the previous two games, the Hero will need to explore the castle to access the tower instead of the other way around. Once the Hero frees Cloudsgate Citadel from Dhuran's control in the Upper World, he can transport to a temple in the island directly below in the Lower World by looking into the well in the castle. North of the temple is the tower.

After the events of the game, the Pillar of Pegasus will come to be known as the Stairway to Zenithia.
