The Red Orb in the lower levels of the Kingsbarrow.

The Red Orb started out as a royal treasure of Heliodor before it was stolen by Erik about one year prior to the main events of the game. Before the Hero and Erik return to Cobblestone, they visit Downtown Heliodor to take the Orb back from where it had been stashed. When the Orb is absent from the stash, they must track down Erik's former partner in crime, Derk, who tells them that it has been taken to the Kingsbarrow. A pair of monsters attempt to make off with it in order to gain favor with the Lord of Shadows, but they are defeated by Erik and the Luminary and they take the Orb back. Note that this is technically one of Erik's possessions at this point, and does not appear in the Important Items inventory. Later on, when the Hero and his party discover that it is one of the Six Orbs needed to reach Yggdrasil, Erik gives the Red Orb to the Hero.

During Act 2, the Red Orb is in the possession of the Spectral Sentinel Alizarin, who uses it to surround himself with an impenetrable barrier before it was dispelled by the powers of the Luminary. Even during the boss battle, Alizarin also uses the Orb to increase the damage the main characters take by generating a crimson mist around the party. When Alizarin falls, the Hero regains the Red Orb.

Not long after this, Erik also reveals his complex reasons for having stolen the Orb in the first place.
