The Yellow Orb, from the box art for Dragon Warrior III.

The Six Orbs (6つのオーブ) are a set of mythical Orbs that first appeared in Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation, and then later returned in several Dragon Quest games. Their functionality changes from game to game, but they still remain as largely important and rare items.

List of Orbs[edit]

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation[edit]

The Six Orbs are used to hatch Ramia, the legendary phoenix. The Orbs are found in various locations in the overworld.

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride[edit]

The Silver Orb along with the addition of a new Gold Orb are presented in the game as the means of allowing Zenithia Castle to hover in the air and later returning to the sky.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit]

The Six Orbs, with the reintegration of a seventh Gold Orb, return as a major story element. Each Orb represents one of the Seven Sages, and they are needed in order face Rhapthorne.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit]

The Six Orbs appear as extremely rare alchemy ingredients, for upgrading the most advanced equipment in the game. They are rare drops from the various Legacy Bosses.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]

The Six Orbs are used to open the way to Yggdrasil. Acquiring the Orbs is a large part of the Luminary's quest, and are found in the following order: the Red Orb is found in The Kingsbarrow, the Yellow Orb is the prize of the Octagonia martial arts tournament, the Green Orb is protected by the mermaids of Nautica, the Silver Orb is found in the The Eerie Eyrie after being stolen by a bird monster from Puerto Valor, the Purple Orb is within the ruins of Zwaardsrust, and the Blue Orb is held in the castle of Sniflheim.
